The Fan Chair aka Peacock Chair named for its resemblance to a peacock's fanned tail feathers became popular in the 1970s however their origin dates back to the 19th century with the introduction of rattan from China. They have seen somewhat of a revival over the past two years and are popping up in design magazines, photo shoots and advertisements. I picked one up this weekend for the shop that is in excellent condition.
Are you a fan of the FAN? Do you like them painted or oh naturale?
I love them! There is something so bohemian and care free about them. I like them both ways! What do YOU prefer?
ReplyDeleteMost definitely a fan! Love them au naturel or painted...doesn't matter. They are amazing!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh - huge fan! Painted or natural -either way ! Does this mean you scored one of these beauties?
ReplyDeleteHuge big fan!
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of the fan! The opinion of a chick from the 60's...keep them natural. Great find.
ReplyDeleteI have to laugh that I sold one of these about twenty years ago in a garage sale ... for $10.00 ... how I would love to have it back!! Love them painted!! xo
ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan! I scored a pair of these proud peacocks on Craigslist a few months ago for $150. They are identical to the chairs in the fourth pic (and in the Brigitte Bardot pic), and they are in mint, original condition. I had considered painting them, but given their intricate design, I just couldn’t bear to do it. Great post!!
ReplyDeleteXOXO,

Love the peacock chair. I am glad they are making a comeback. they are both casual and elegant. Great find!
ReplyDeleteMy initial reaction was to say no (I remember them being used as wedding 'thrones' in the 80s) but these examples have me changing my mind. I love the shape of them - I particularly loved the example on the beach!
ReplyDeleteLove these when they are used right! I remember being a kid in the 80's and a friend had one of these in her house...it looked so awkward in the space. I just felt sorry for the chair. It's one of those powerful pieces that you just have to let soar (puny, i know, sorry)
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan and it reminds me of home.
