MARCEL BREUER - THE CESCA CHAIR

Over the weekend I scored, not one but four, Cesca style armchairs for the shop.  I say "style" because I can not find any markings on the chairs.  I would not want to say they are original without proof but I do know they are vintage and were purchased in California years ago.  Here is a little history I took from the Knoll website regarding Marcel Breuer's iconic chair.  Knoll is still producing the chair today.

"Three years after designing his iconic Wassily Chair, which is believed to be the first bent tubular steel chair design, Marcel Breuer created the Cesca Chair (1928). Named in tribute to his daughter Francesca, the simple design pairs the industrial age aesthetic of tubular steel with caning and wood.  An original 1928 chair is included in MoMA’s permanent collection.  “It’s among the 10 most important chairs of the 20th century,” said Cara McCarty, associate curator, department of architecture and design at MoMA."

So what do you think?  Are you a fan?

DINING ROOM REVEAL

OK you've been asking for it and here it is.  I really wish I could take better pictures but alas this is as good as it gets with me.

As a reminder, here is the concept board:

And here is my dining room today.  I am officially ready for a dinner party!:

FLEA FINDS!!

Happy Monday everyone!  I'm coming off a flea market rush weekend.  The winter months are always slow but the weather was perfect and the vendors were out.  I can tell from this point forward as the Spring approaches, the flea will get better and better.  So what did I see and what did I purchase?

On Friday with the girls, we saw:

cool rustic table top on glam brass hoof-footed base
(love the mix! it was sold by Sunday)

clubby man chair (only $40.00; it was sold by Sunday)

cool vintage leather office chair (set of 2; sold by Sunday) and random pink elephant

tons of letters....I'm kind of over letters

these interesting black leather chairs (set of 6); hmmm...I know I'm looking for glam for my dining room but could these be a possibility and do a Ralph Lauren Men's Club/ Ryan Korban/ Diane Von Furstenberg upscale glamorous look?
$20.00 each!!  I offered $100 for all 6....SOLD!!  (approx. $16.00/chair....seriously!)

very cool vintage patio chairs

taxidermy?? me?  maybe.....is it just me or is she kind of pretty?
this is something you would never expect to see in my house.....which is why I like the idea

mid-century fold down table perfect for a small space (Kathy purchased this set for her playroom)

Brazilian cowhide in Cheetah print - love, love, love....how sexy is this
could these be paired with the black leather dining chairs to make a very sexy dining room
oh my, the wheels are turning

On Saturday, I returned with the family (kids and my parents):  I tell Mom I'm thinking about buying a deer head and she thinks I'm crazy.  Taxidermy (in very small doses) is in right?!  I explain, I want to use her at the bar as somewhat of a bar mascot that I can glam up with Ava's vintage costume jewelry collection.  From here on we just become our weird crazy selves and make up an entire story about the deer.....she is a doe trapped in a bucks body. She is a transvestite deer and her name is Bridget Bar-Doe (get it). Yes people, this is how our minds think, we are completely crazy.  Thank goodness my husband loves me.

The kids fall in love with Bridget Bar-Doe so of course she comes home with us.

So end of day Saturday, we have purchased a snow cone, hot dog, chicken wings, funnel cake, popcorn, cheetah print cow-hide and a transvestite deer name Bridget Bar-Doe.......oh just another great weekend at the flea!

(on a side note, I had a really cute hip girl stop and ask me where I found the deer head and did they have anymore.....ha! seriously taxidermy is in!)

Later this week, sexy dining room update.

One Thing Leads to Another

It's funny how you start blogging or pinning about one topic/look and it starts showing up in various places in your life.  I'm sure many of you know exactly what I'm talking about.  Recently, I posted about Barrie Benson which led me to Meredith German which led me to thinking about the Greenbrier which also showed up in my Good Bones Great Pieces book which led to finding out about their Greenbier inspired party......where is this run on sentence going you ask?  Well, many moons ago I posted about a set of dining room chairs that Melissa and I are rehabbing.  The rehab project was put on hold but is now back on track.  We are nearing the finish line and it is time to pick out chair cover fabric.  What did we choose?  None other than a Dorothy Draper/Greenbrier meets Palm Springs inspired print.  It is also a throwback to the tropical barkcloth of the 1950/60s which I love.

Let me know what you think of the finished product.

Going To Rehab: Dining Chairs

My design partner, Melissa from The Insane Domain, and I are going to give you a sneak peek of one of our latest transformation projects. We found six vintage dining chairs at the Nashville Flea Market this past winter. They have been patiently waiting in my attic for their time in rehab. We spent Sunday sanding and prepping.

We are now at the priming stage and are still undecided on seat fabric. We kind of like the original "granny gold" that was revealed after layers (representing different decades I might add) were removed. We were surprised to find the original fabric in perfect condition. The question..."is it just too granny?" We are going to wait until we have the perfectly finished high gloss white chair to make the final decision. Until then.......the jury is still out. Let us know if you have a vote.

Also let us know, if you are interested in these lovely ladies. They will be part of our "Paris Flea" (aka stuff we want to sell) inventory.
