First, thank you all for your compliments and kind words regarding the dining room reveal. It is always nice to get support from your fellow OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Decorator) friends.
Today I stumbled across a wonderful interior design book from the past. If you do not have House and Garden's Complete Guide to Interior Decorating (circa 1970), drop what you are doing right now and order if off of Amazon or eBay. I am amazed at how relevant the design style is to today's en vogue looks. The book features interiors from the 1960s and 70s. My favorite passage from the book is entitled:
"The no-period room - a triumph of livability - is here to stay. The interplay of old and new, simple and elegant, sentimental and practical, is the most provocative of all decorating ploys. The no-period room refuses to be stereotyped; it reflects the range of tastes and imagination rather than a single design period or mood. It recognizes the validity of placing a clear glass coffee table on an old needlepoint rug, of partnering a mixture of antiques and contemporary pictures, of covering a Louis XV chair in a bold houndstooth check. Wake up your house with this new, uninhibited harmony."
Wow! Is it just me or is that hitting really close to home.
