PALM BEACH EYE CANDY

Wow, talk about the longest vacation ever. Our Florida trip consisted of 6 days in St. Augustine, 2 days in Orlando, 1 day in Palm/West Palm and 3 days in Boca Raton.   We had a wonderful time but I'm so glad to be home and somewhat back to a routine.  If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook then hopefully you caught some of the trip action in real time.

For my design loving friends, the main part you will be interested in is the short but oh so sweet day spent in Palm/West Palm Beach visiting two of my favorite shops: Palm Beach Regency and Circa Who.  Let's just say I probably.....no definitely, made a fool out of myself in both places because they are both so amazing.  Here is a quick look at some of the fabulous inventory:

See what I mean!!!  I can't wait to go back.

KELLY WEARSTLER AND VINTAGE LUCITE FLATWARE

I've decided that if Kelly Wearstler were my friend (and one day she will be :), she would be so happy with my most recent estate sale find.  A service for 8 Supreme Cutlery lucite and stainless flatware set made in Japan circa 1960s/70s (41 total pieces) in excellent condition. It truly is LUCITE GREATNESS.  I will be sad to see it go but that is the nature of the biz....sell or become a hoarder.

I think these would pair nicely with any of the Kelly Wearstler patterns for Pickard below.  Have I mentioned how crazy I am for KW?  If you haven't picked up her new book yet (Rhapsody), do so.  It is inspiration overload.

CREWEL TO BE KIND

Crewel work has a rich history, stretching as far back as the early Medieval period.  Crewel embroidery is simply embroidery done with wool threads. It enjoyed popularity in the Jacobean period with elaborate designs of stylized flowers, birds, and beasts displayed on household goods and clothing.  It had a revival in the 1970s and is showing up again with a modern twist from designers and retailers such as Jonathan Adler, West Elm and Anthropologie.
The vintage pieces can go kitschy fast but I've found a few art pieces lately that I love including this wonderful piece.  Do you have crewel goodness around your house?

FLEA FINDS!

This month was not big for large pieces but I did find a few small treasures.

Wonderful Black and White Ashtray with Gold Accents
I seriously have a thing for vintage ashtrays and with this one being in one of my
favorite color combinations, I had to get it.  They make the best jewelry and do-da holders.

Original Art!!
I literally pushed (ever so gently) two people out of the way to grab this one.  The frame it was in was falling apart so I grabbed a cheap one at Michaels.  I think she deserves better but for now, this will do.

Goddess Statue
Last but not least, a very random, kitschy item that I love.  Oh yes people, she's a candle but I swear we all thought she was an amber statue at first.  There is a message on the bottom that reads "to my goddess 1972"

VINTAGE INSPIRATION

First, thank you all for your compliments and kind words regarding the dining room reveal.  It is always nice to get support from your fellow OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Decorator) friends.

Today I stumbled across a wonderful interior design book from the past.  If you do not have House and Garden's Complete Guide to Interior Decorating (circa 1970), drop what you are doing right now and order if off of Amazon or eBay.  I am amazed at how relevant the design style is to today's en vogue looks.  The book features interiors from the 1960s and 70s.  My favorite passage from the book is entitled:

"The no-period room - a triumph of livability - is here to stay.  The interplay of old and new, simple and elegant, sentimental and practical, is the most provocative of all decorating ploys.  The no-period room refuses to be stereotyped; it reflects the range of tastes and imagination rather than a single design period or mood.  It recognizes the validity of placing a clear glass coffee table on an old needlepoint rug, of partnering a mixture of antiques and contemporary pictures, of covering a Louis XV chair in a bold houndstooth check. Wake up your house with this new, uninhibited harmony."

Wow!  Is it just me or is that hitting really close to home.

Here are a few of my favorite pics (taken from my phone, sorry) but don't worry, the book is over 300 pages so there is plenty of more eye-candy.

On another note to end the week, look at these great bar glasses I scored today for the shop.  They are by Culver, LTD and I'm loving them.  Tomorrow starts Flea Weekend so maybe I'll have more treasures to show you on Monday.  Have a great weekend everyone!
