Mud cloth is a handmade fabric originating in the West African country of Mali. I first learned about it last year while watching an Emily Henderson Secrets of a Stylist episode. It has also been used by West Elm on ottomans and BCBG for fashion.
BCBG Tribal Mix inspired by mud cloth
I'm currently working on a client's office. We are keeping everything black and white with just one pop of color, kelly green. The furnishing are a mix of modern and vintage. One item the client wants to keep is a very traditional Bergere chair. I'm thinking of covering it in mud cloth like this:
Or black plaid like this:
Which do you prefer? Here are some other elements in the office.
Faux Bamboo Thomasville Dresser in high gloss black (not white like pic)
IKEA Table and Chair Set
Rug
CB2 Bookshelf
Woods Wallpaper
Hicks Pendant Overhead lighting (still need a cool desk lamp)
And here are just a few fun accessories we might use:
So what do you think, plaid or mud cloth?
plaid, plaid, plaid. MUCH more chic than the mud cloth!
ReplyDeleteI actually love the mud cloth!
ReplyDeleteI like both! But I think the mud cloth is less expected and more unique. So I'd go MC!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the mud cloth! I wonder if I could make that work in my living room...
ReplyDeleteI'm obviously voting mud cloth here.
Looks like it's going to be a great room!
I love mud cloth and saw a lot the last time I went into NYC.

I like the mud cloth, but black plaid would add that touch of preppy and contrast nicely with the hide rug. Either way, pattern on that chair will look great. And those b&w lacquer boxes are right up my alley!
ReplyDeleteMudcloth, but at my house. That is awesome!
ReplyDeleteLove your plan. Both are nice but I think I'm leaning towards plaid.
ReplyDeleteMy vote is mudcloth, especially if the bergere is painted gold, like the one above. Such a great contrast of cultures that I find more interesting and unexpected. Of course the plaid would look wonderful- it's more "safe".
ReplyDeleteWhat MFG said!
ReplyDeleteMudcloth...no doubt
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the Mudcloth!!!! I love the plans!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going with the plaid. I love the preppy element it gives to the space - especially with the kelly green. It's going to be a fab space, Brandy!
