Happy Monday! I apologize upfront for this being a long-winded story but you need to hear the entire sequence of events to appreciate the ending. One Thursday last September, Mom and I were perusing the Gas Lamp Antique Mall shopping for specific items for a client. In a booth, sat a wonderful Parisian Greyhound Statue from the 1960s that I went crazy for. Because said Greyhound was not on the shopping list, I passed her over.
I thought about her all weekend so I decided to go first thing Monday and purchase her. As I walked towards the booth, she was nowhere to be seen. She was GONE!!! I went to the front to inquire and they confirmed she had been purchased. I was devastated but then my heart grabbed to the slight hope that Mom had secretly bought her that weekend for my Christmas present......could this be possible? I called Mom and asked point blank...."did you get her for me...you have to tell me?" Sadly, she had not. I conceded that the Greyhound was "the one that got away". As Christmas approached and Mom talked up my gift, a small part of me thought....could it be the dog? I received awesome gifts but alas the dog was not one of them.
So to bring this story to present day, last week I read about a new shop in East Nashville called Moxie. I checked out their website and there on the main page was a Greyhound that looked very similar to my coveted one.
Could this be the same one? Melissa and I went first thing Saturday to check it out. Sure enough....there she sat in all her glory. Scott, the co-owner, and I exchanged stories. He had been the one that purchased the Greyhound back in September at Gas Lamp. He is the nicest guy and after hearing my story, agreed she needed to come home with me.
She is marked so I quickly did some research on her maker. She was produced by a company out of Miami called Marwal Industries. They created plaster figures from the 1940s to the 1960s. I emailed the ladies at Palm Beach Regency because they had the exact same dog that has already sold and one very similar currently available. They were nice enough to supply me with some very helpful information - thanks PBR!
I currently have her placed at the entrance of Gogo Studio (aka my office) keeping me company . I hope this story gives you hope for your "one that got away" piece. I know we all have them.......some of us more than one :)

Great story. I actually know the girl who has that booth - I saw the greyhound too and loved her. Anyway, the booth owner is the girl who had the tortoise shell sconce that I let get away last year: http://myinteriorlife.blogspot.com/2012/03/tale-of-two-sconces.html and then found (sort of) here: http://myinteriorlife.blogspot.com/2012/03/it-does-exist.html. Anyway, that greyhound was actually in her mother's house in Florida and she decided to put in her booth. So glad it found it's way back to you!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you two circled back to one another! No telling what creative ideas ya'll when come up with :)
