KINFOLK MAGAZINE - A GUIDE FOR SMALL GATHERINGS

I recently discovered Kinfolk Magazine.  I'm not sure how I've missed this amazing publication because both Anthropologie and West Elm are stockists but apparently I've had blinders on.  I was in a booth at the Nashville Flea Market last month where they were using these magazines as props.  I was immediately hooked just by the covers and was saddened to find out they were not for sale.  I went home that evening and ordered 3 back issues from eBay.  It is a quarterly, 144-page, ad-free print magazine that collects ideas from a growing international community of artists, writers, designers, photographers, cooks and others who are interested in creating small gatherings and finding new things to make and do.  Each issue is a work of art through the photography and eloquently written articles.  After reading, I feel inspired to slow down and  enjoy time with my family and friends.

THAT'S A WRAP FOR SUPER MOON 2013!

Apologies upfront.  I know most of you are probably tired of hearing about the Super Moon Party but I promised some I would do a quick recap so here it goes. We had a great time and the weather cooperated.  The final headcount was 65 guests which sounds like a lot but it never felt crowded thanks to our large backyard space.

Last set of guests leave at 1:45am and the moon is high in the sky.  Jud makes me a grilled egg and cheese sandwich because guess who was too busy to even eat a crepe!!  

And with that said, I say goodnight to the Super Moon of 2013

IT'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN......PARTY TIME!

Yes tomorrow is the big day!  We are up to 70 guests and the weather is looking perfect: high of 89 degrees with a low of 66 and only a 10% chance of rain.  Thank you all for help on the dress choice. I'm still on the fence. I'm waiting on my big sis to get into town to help me make the final decision but if I wear the Caftan....of course I'll wear a slip under it.  It's not that kind of party :)  (I think I posted a picture of a girl wearing it over her swimsuit).

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida -- There will be a Full Moon on the night of June 22, 2013, but not just any Full Moon, it will be the closest Super Moon of 2013.  This Super Moon will appear 13% larger and 30% brighter than normal Full Moons.

The June 2013 Super Moon begins with a moonrise over the Atlantic Ocean on Florida's east coast at 7:41 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Saturday, June 22, 2013.

PARTY DETAILS - BOHO DECOR AND BLUE MOON COCKTAILS

As you saw last week, my Super Moon Party decor is taking on more of a Boho vibe vs a down home southern look.  If you know me, this makes perfect sense.  Here are a few things I picked up over the weekend:

There will be two bar stations. One for the Moonshine Tasting and the other for beer, wine and the signature party cocktail:  The Blue Moon.  I'm starting to think my napkins will clash with the cocktail.....is that just insane that I'm worried about my napkins coordinating with the cocktail?  They had blue/green IKAT so maybe I'll do a quick switch out.  Yes I'm a FREAK!

BOHO SCREENED PORCH

As part of the party prep, I'm giving our screened-in porch a makeover.  This screened in area is actually a detached structure from our house that has a small screened-in area that faces the lake and a potting shed/tackle room on the street side.  Here is picture of the area prior to owning the house.

When we moved in, I added two white IKEA SVINGA chairs on the either side of the doorway:

and I filled the room with our Pottery Barn Chesapeake Modular Sectional:

For parties, I usually take the furniture out and set up food tables inside the protected screened area but because we are having a food truck for this event, I decided this was a perfect time to give the room a new look.  I decided to go with a bohemian vibe after finding some wonderful orange and hot pink crewel pillows at HomeGoods.  I mixed them with outdoor Threshold pillows from Target.  I'm also pulling from my upcoming sale inventory by using the Vintage Wicker Peacock chair, the gold bamboo mirror and cream elephant stool.  For lighting, I found a vintage swag light at an estate sale last weekend that adds a cool vibe partnered with your basic outdoor globe lighting.

Here is the work in progress. I still need to add some finishing touches but it is coming together.  It's not a large space but I think that adds to the coziness.  It definitely takes on a lounge vibe once the sun goes down!

SUPER MOON PARTY 2013

This week and next I'm in complete party/entertain mode as I get ready for our 2013 Super Moon Party.  The Super Moon is the moon's closest encounter with the Earth and largest full moon of the year....any reason to have a party right?!  I am praying for nice weather as this is an all outdoors event.  I've lined up a Food Truck, Live Music and a Moonshine Tasting.  Don't be surprised if my upcoming posts are all about party planning and cool outdoor ideas!
