A Sigh of Relief

Because my style (aka Gogo Style) is somewhat unique, I've often wondered how well it would be received by Nashville if I ever tried to promote my aesthetic in terms of products or design services.  The first step taken to answer that question was to have a sale showcasing items that are indicative of this style.  I was scared of several things:  would anyone show up?, would anyone buy anything?, would everyone be silently thinking "this look is not for me"?.  It was comforting to know that I was sharing some of this burden with my co-host, Melissa from The Insane Domain, however having the sale in my home doubled my anxiety about how patrons would react to my overall decor.  My home is a true reflection of the design style I want to share.  By opening my front door, I was putting my heart and soul on display for the public to see and judge.  I realize this is all sounding very dramatic.  I mean it was a tag sale for Pete's sake but to me it was a test to see if others would embrace this style I'm so passionate about.

I am happy to report that within the first 30 minutes of the sale my fears were calmed.  As the cars rolled in and customers left with arm loads full of items, I knew that things were headed in the right direction.  As I was showing one customer around the sale, she said to me  "I am so happy and relieved to see this style in Nashville.....your style is exactly what I love".  That comment made my day.

I am so grateful to everyone that attended and would love to hear from you all regarding future sales. What would you like to see more of?  Are there items we did not have that you specifically would like to see next time?  Were there logistics about the sale you wish were different?  Any feedback is appreciated.  If you do not want to post on the blog, then please email me directly at chateauagogo@comcast.net

Thank Yous:
Thank you to my mother who painted, cleaned, priced and listened to me whine all week long.
Thank you to Melissa for co-hosting the sale and being my sounding board.
Last but not least, thank you to everyone that attended confirming that there is a place for Gogo Style.

(here we are looking so color coordinated; yes my sleeves were quite "poofy")

Tag Sale Sneak Peek #4: Let There Be Light

We have an amazing mix of lamps for our tag sale this week.  One of the easiest and budget friendly ways to breathe new life into your space is to update your lamps.
Melissa did a post today that includes many shots of our inventory (check post out here).  I am partial to the picture below.  I think this one sampling shows our wide range of styles.  All of our lamps are vintage and range from Hollywood Regency to Mid Century Modern.  We even have in our selection, a highly collectible signed chalkware lamp from the Reglor of California company.  All of these lamps are one-of-a-kind in the sense that you can not go out and purchase the same version today.  They add both personality and elements of the past to your home.

Here are some great examples of designer spaces where vintage lighting added the piece de resistance!  Add some to your space.

(don't forget....we also have bar carts to go with your lamps like the vignette above)

Sale Sneak Peek #3: Bar Cart Revival

It's no secret that the bar cart is making a comeback.  Just look at any current design magazine and you are sure to see several examples of this throwback to the past.  I read in a recent article that almost every showroom at High Point this season showcased a bar cart in their new line.  I prefer the vintage carts that have a history and story to tell.
For our tag sale event, we have 3 bar carts showcased:

The Don Draper: Give this cart to the Mad Man in your life.  My husband is begging to keep this one.  It definitely has strong masculine lines and the smokey glass shelves add to it's intrigue.

The Audrey Hepburn:  This faux bamboo beauty represents the Hollywood Regency period when a drink was always being poured

The June Cleaver:  This cart is a bit more casual but very versatile for use as a cocktail bar or coffee/tea bar.

Sale Sneak Peek #2: Pillow Talk

Pillows, pillows and more pillows.  I'll admit....I change my pillows a lot.  It's an easy, budget friendly way to revive any space.

Part of our pillow inventory for this tag sale are some of the limited edition Liberty of London and Missoni Home pillows for Target that are no longer available. They are all in excellent like new condition.

Tag Sale 101

It's funny, the term "tag sale" is so common to me however I've had several friends ask, "what exactly is a tag sale?".  I didn't stop to think that some of my friends might not be as familiar with that term as I am.  This tag sale will be a mix of vintage treasures acquired during many adventures and newer items from some favorite stores that are just gently used but in very good condition.

Why have a sale you ask?    There are 3 answers to that question:
  • I have a passion for finding objects from the past, repurposing them, giving them new life and mixing them with modern pieces to create fun unexpected spaces.
  • Also, I suffer from OCD, Obsessive Compulsive Decorating.  My house is continually evolving and my family has just come to accept this as a way of life.  Because of this condition, I need a means to move new things in and other things out......hence the need for a sale.
  • Last but not least, the sale is not just a hodgepodge of randomness, it is a calculated grouping of objects that all work together to create what I've come to call Gogo Style.  I guess I feel the need to share this style with my family and friends because I truly believe it infuses fun and happiness into your space.....at least it does for me.
How would I describe Gogo Style? I would say it is a balance between the clean lines of mid-century modern, the bold glamour of Hollywood Regency and a splash of Palm Springs chic.  If this sounds like foreign language to you, still come and check it out.  You may be surprised by what you find.

Here are a few Pinterest pics that I think capture this style:

A barcart is always a must
