Wallpaper Envy........Installment #1

OK I'll admit it. I'm obsessed with wallpaper. I know it's a trendy thing. It is en vogue now but will be passé in several years. I don't care. I love it. I see it as a form of art and the amount of craftsmanship that goes into some of the more unique lines is amazing. Of course, you pay a pretty penny for that craftsmanship but sometimes it is worth it. I plan on doing several segments on wallpaper. For this installment, I'm going to feature the amazing Australian artist, Florence Broadhurst. If you don't know who she is, a must read is "Florence Broadhurst Her Secret and Extraordinary Lives" by Helen O'Neill.

Not only is her story one of fascination and intrigue but the book itself is beautiful inside and out with amazing images of her work. I will not go into too much detail about Florence but will entice you by saying that she lived multiple lives and died in a shroud of mystery still unsolved to this day. She was way ahead of her time. Her patterns from the 1960s and 70s are just as relevant today as they were back then. Not only is her wallpaper being used by high design studios such as Woodson and Rummerfield's but you can find her patterns in the Kate Spade's 2012 collection and Cadry's handmade rugs. Here is a double dose of artistic images by Australian artist Emma Hack who painted models on canvas covered by Florence Broadhoarst patterns....some of these are uber cra-cra but I love them!

My Journey Begins..........

Fourteen years ago, two roads diverged in a wood and I took the one with the most traffic. I've been in the corporate world ever since. Now I am ready to take the backroads and find my true self. My love for design really did not reveal itself until my early 20s. I realize now it was always there but never nurtured. Over the years, my own personal style has evolved. I would describe my style as a modern twist on classic designs with an element of gogo whenever possible. I love the clean lines of an Eames Chair mixed with the bold pattern of a Florence Broadhurst wallpaper or a Billy Baldwin sofa recovered in hot pink. I also love the quirkiness of an Adler vase or an oversized vintage lamp to infuse fun into a room. Spaces and pieces with a story to tell, are far more stimulating than off the shelf products. As you start this journey with me, here are a few inspiring spaces that reflect my sense of style......enjoy!
