NANA CHIC

Kelly Osbourne used the term "Granny Chic" to describe Zoe Deschanel's look at the Golden Globes last night and on the season finale of Million Dollar Decorators, Nathan Turner used the term "Nana Chic" to describe Mary McDonald's home makeover.  Check out this link to get a personal tour.  It is fabulous.

In the new Living Etc, Amanda Holland's home is featured. She uses the large scale wallpaper pattern Rugosa Garden by Designers Guild in her master bath.  This pattern definitely has a grandma vibe but she pairs it with Orla Kiely's Striped Petal pattern to keep it fresh and modern (sorry for the iphone pic).

THE ELEPHANT IS THE NEW OWL

Remember how the owl was the new butterfly?  Well it's happening as we speak, the elephant is the new owl.  I don't know about you but I'm seeing elephants everywhere in the design world.  I am the first to admit the elephant is typically not my animal of choice.  This may have a little something to do with me attending Auburn University and the University of Alabama being our all time rivals (for those of you not from the South nor into football, the Alabama Crimson Tide mascot is the elephant).

However, as you may have noted in my previous posts, the elephant garden stool (two in fact) have found their way into my home and I'm loving them.  Do you have a favorite elephant piece?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

If you didn't know, today is Elvis's birthday but this post is not about him.  It's also my wonderful husband's birthday.  Sometimes I still get tickled when I call him that.  We've been married for almost 14 years but I've know him since fifth grade!  Yes fifth grade people.  We didn't start dating until the end of our senior year of high school but we've known each other FOREVER!

We are very lucky.  Even though we have been together so long, it has been really easy and full of fun times.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETIE!

Here's Judson with our adorable poodle Lola........

Just kidding but I really do want a poodle named Lola.  Here he is with our adorable children.  Can you see the resemblance?  Did I have anything to do with making these children?

DOES THIS LOOK FAMILIAR?

Remember my amazing pair of Stiffel lamps found at a local thrift store and how I found one on 1stdibs for $1750? (if not, click the link and read about it).  Well it looks like Thomas O'Brien has decided to bring the look back.  I found the Fiona lamp today at Circa Lighting.  This just reinforces that there really is no such thing as an original idea which I have to say makes me feel a little better about the unrealistic pressure I put upon myself (ok that was a deep comment.....didn't mean to go there, just wanted to share the lamp info).

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

Happy 2013 everyone!  It has been nice to have several days off.  I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season.  Before jumping back into the swing of design things,  I wanted to share a few items found under my tree this year.  I would love to hear what goodies you received.  As you can see, gold was the signature color.

Love Letter necklace designed by India Hicks.  I got an "A" which can stand for Adams or Ava so that when she is old enough, I can pass it on to her.
