HUNTER GAMES: NOLA

We didn't have much time for shopping while in New Orleans but where there is a will there is a way.  Here are a few Gogo-worthy pieces we saw all located at the fabulous Loisel Vintage Modern on Magazine Street (Suzette, this is the store name you asked about).

This weekend is the Nashville Flea so I'll be back on Monday to report on that hunting expedition.  Hopefully I'll find a Persian rug and some dining chairs (yeah, right!).

(I need these chairs in my life)

SEXY MILO SOFA....YES OR NO?

While in New Orleans last week, I found an amazing shop filled with mid-century goodness.  Leave it to me to fall in love with the largest piece in the store.  What is it with me and sofas?  I currently have four sofas in my house and a fifth one in the attic....oh and I probably shouldn't mention I just sold a sofa that was in my office so I recently had five sofas in my house.  Why can't I be obsessed with smaller things like chairs or lamps? (oh wait...I am).

Anywhoo.....the shop has this amazing L-shaped sectional designed by Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin.  The sectional consists of two cream colored sofa's attached by a corner table.  The entire piece sits on a wooden base topped with chrome plating.  It is so comfortable and screams, "SIT ON ME AND HAVE A COCKTAIL".  I'm considering this piece for the lake/living room.  Based on dimensions it will fit perfect but my hesitation is the lack of flexibility.  The pieces have to be used together because of the way the base is built.

I know me and I like to move things around.  Will this piece be too constrictive?  What are your thoughts?

It would go in the lake room in place of cream chairs and brown sofa:

GOGO PROJECT: LAUNDRY ROOM WALLPAPER

When I left you last on this project (click here), we were at subway tile installation.  Next up, wallpaper.  I decided on Oh Joy's Petal Pusher in Gold.  I just love this paper.  I've used it in a client bedroom and just knew I had to have it in my house somewhere.  The laundry room was the lucky winner.

My wallpaper installer is amazing and had it completed in a matter of hours.  If you are looking for a good wallpaper hanger in the Nashville area, give me a shout.  I am happy to pass on her information.

To give you a full appreciation for how far we have come, here are some progress pictures:

So far, I'm enjoying doing laundry......I wonder how long that will last??

WE SURVIVED BARELY!!

Melissa and I returned from New Orleans on Tuesday afternoon and I am just now starting to feel normal.  What a wonderful, crazy, wild trip.  If you follow me on Facebook then you saw some of the pics but here is a quick recap:

We stayed at this beautiful home on St. Charles Avenue directly on the parade route.

Every day consisted of parades starting at 9am and ending at 11pm.

Saturday night we attended the Emdymion Ball held in the Superdome featuring Kelly Clarkson as the headliner.  The only way to describe this experience is to imagine being at a concert with 30,000 people however everyone is dressed in ball gowns and tuxes. The Emdymion parade actually comes through the Superdome and you get pounded with beads and other trinkets that they've saved till the end.  It was so much fun!  At roughly 2:30am, Melissa and I decided to make our way to the front to get closer to the band.  That journey ended with Melissa slipping on a pile of beads and laughing off what we thought was just a sprained knee.  We left the ball at 4am.

(SUPERDOME ALL DECKED OUT IN MARDI GRAS COLORS)

(ME AND OUR GRACIOUS HOST, ANN!)

Over the next few days, more parades and more swelling to Melissa's leg.  When we arrived back in Nashville Tuesday, she went directly to the doctor and confirmed TWO fractures to her fibula bone!!  The doctor laughed and said "Mardi Gras must be good pain medicine".  He couldn't believe she had been hobbling around on it for two and a half days.

GOOD TIMES, GOOD TIMES!!

Have a great weekend.......back on Monday with laundry room wallpaper reveal (finally)!!!

NEW ORLEANS HERE WE COME!

I'm headed out of town for a few days with my BFF, Melissa, to experience Mardi Gras for the first time.  She is a native Louisianan so this is nothing new for her, but me......I'm a virgin to this never-ending party scene. Our itinerary includes:

Friday: Balcony party on Bourbon Street to view parade (no I don't plan on showing the goods)
Saturday:  Endymion Ball (black tie and full length gowns required!)
Sunday: Private party on St. Charles street to view parade
Monday: Horse Races
Tuesday: Fly home in need of massive juice cleanse which I'm starting on that Wednesday

So what does a girl wear to the ball?

Full Length Black Sequined Michael Kors Dress (comfortable but sexy with a nod to the 70s)

Emerald Green Jewelry
Anthropologie Bracelet

Vivi Bracelet

Large Emerald Cocktail Ring; my best attempt to channel you know who

Peacock Feather Hair Accessory

Black Strappy Shoes to add a little edge (these are Jimmy Choo's...mine are wannabee Jimmy Choo's)

Gold Clutch (large enough to hold my backup flats; according to Melissa, the ball goes until sunrise)

Be watching Facebook for updates on our trip.  I'm sure there will be some entertaining pics.  Happy early weekend......back next week!

GREYHOUND RESCUE

Happy Monday!  I apologize upfront for this being a long-winded story but you need to hear the entire sequence of events to appreciate the ending. One Thursday last September, Mom and I were perusing the Gas Lamp Antique Mall shopping for specific items for a client.  In a booth, sat a wonderful Parisian Greyhound Statue from the 1960s that I went crazy for.  Because said Greyhound was not on the shopping list, I passed her over.

 Pinned Image

I thought about her all weekend so I decided to go first thing Monday and purchase her.  As I walked towards the booth, she was nowhere to be seen.  She was GONE!!!  I went to the front  to inquire and they confirmed she had been purchased.  I was devastated but then my heart grabbed to the slight hope that Mom had secretly bought her that weekend for my Christmas present......could this be possible? I called Mom and asked point blank...."did you get her for me...you have to tell me?"  Sadly, she had not.  I conceded that the Greyhound was "the one that got away".  As Christmas approached and Mom talked up my gift, a small part of me thought....could it be the dog?  I received awesome gifts but alas the dog was not one of them.

So to bring this story to present day, last week I read about a new shop in East Nashville called Moxie.  I checked out their website and there on the main page was a Greyhound that looked very similar to my coveted one.

Interior Photos

Could this be the same one?  Melissa and I went first thing Saturday to check it out.  Sure enough....there she sat in all her glory.  Scott, the co-owner, and I exchanged stories.  He had been the one that purchased the Greyhound back in September at Gas Lamp.   He is the nicest guy and after hearing my story, agreed she needed to come home with me.

She is marked so I quickly did some research on her maker.   She was produced by a company out of Miami called Marwal Industries.  They created plaster figures from the 1940s to the 1960s.  I emailed the ladies at Palm Beach Regency because they had the exact same dog that has already sold and one very similar currently available.  They were nice enough to supply me with some very helpful information - thanks PBR!

I currently have her placed at the entrance of Gogo Studio (aka my office) keeping me company .  I hope this story gives you hope for your "one that got away" piece.  I know we all have them.......some of us more than one :)

Cheers!
