WALL TO WALL

Nothing like agreeing to host your husband's company Christmas party to kickstart the "to do list".  My main focus:  the den and bar floor.  It is in desperate need of a makeover.  It is a very odd room to begin with and is a combination of carpet and tile.  To pull the space together, I think I have decided on wall to wall natural fiber (sisal, jute or seagrass).

My concerns with this decision are:
Cleaning - I know cleaners discolor natural fibers
Shedding - I've heard jute can shed and the last thing I need is to constantly clean up after my shedding rug
Smell (ie smelling like grass, hay or twine)

I love the look.  Wall to wall is a big decision but I feel it is the only way to go in order to keep the space feeling warm and connected.  I do plan to layer a very large Beni O or Persian on top of it to increase the cozy factor.

What are your thoughts?  Do you know anyone with wall to wall sisal or jute?  I would love any feedback before jumping off the cliff which may be soon with my limited timeline.

One last option if the sisal/jute idea goes south are Flor carpet tiles.  Once again, I have no experience with them and wonder if they will look high-end or like a playroom.

  1. I think it will look a beautiful. Just throw a big Beni or Persian on it and don't worry about the stains. Maybe sisal or seagrass is the way to go to avoid the shedding of jute.

  2. I love them both, but I feel like the best wall to wall option is seagrass; it's not as nubby or uncomforable to walk on barefoot, and is easy to clean I hear. I want to try it to, but not ready to pull the trigger. Go to http://purestylehome.blogspot.com and search seagrass- she uses it wall to wall in her old house and new.

  3. It all sounds lovely. My lazy when it comes to cleaning self likes the seagrass with soft layer option b/c seagrass repels liquids a lot better than sisal.
