AWKWARD ESTATE SALE PHOTOS

Estates sales are great.  Not only can you find great deals on vintage pieces, you can also be inspired by interiors and architectural details from the past.  Every now and then you stumble upon a sale that is a time capsule and you're not sure from what period.  That happened this weekend and I just had to share.

Hopefully you have all seen the book "Awkward Family Photos".  Well, I want to do a book called Awkward Estate Sale Photos.  I'm going to try and dig up some photos of my late grandmother's house.  Let's just say she had some "interesting" things and thank goodness I did not get her taste in design (God rest her soul :).

What is the craziest thing you've ever seen at a sale?

(artificial flowers, paneling, multi-colored shag carpet, Victorian settee, gilded frames....oh my)

(Thick red shag, flocked wallpaper and a fountain in the bonus room?? hmmm.....)

(an entire back staircase devoted to cat pictures)

(I am pretty sure my grandmother had this lamp)

(anyone need a hair clip?)

  1. Yes, it was "interesting" to say the least. A little Liberace, a little cat lady. I often get sad at estate sales for this reason. We had similar shag in our upstairs playroom growing up, except ours was more orange. Oh, and we had groovy plaid wallpaper to accompany it. The 70's - God love em.

  3. Makes you wonder what the young people will say about your things in 60 years and your children are having your estate sale. HaHa.

  8. I can detect the stench of old cigarette smoke from here. The cat gallery is a little scary. That being said, this type of shopping is right up my alley!

  9. I am 100% sure my mom's house has the flocked wallpaper AND the red shag carpet in a bed room. PLUS a wall of mirrors. She bought it this way, needless to say we always wondered what the prior owners enjoyed in that room. And were to lazy to redo since it was an extra room and barely used. When I stay over it is my room-hahahaha

  10. Some of those pictures made me laugh out loud! I've definitely seen rooms like that at some estate sales. Although, I don't think I've seen a cat wall like that...
