The Big 2-0!

Some of you may find this silly but I am a firm believer in celebrating the little things in life. So......I'm celebrating my 20th follower!! I'm ignoring the fact that a lot of my followers are friends and family. I say "so what", my 20th follower is totally unsolicited. Thank you Kim at Chattafabulous. Because you took the time to comment and become a follower, I'm saying thank you by sending you this oh so cute luggage tag by Jonathan Adler. I plan on giving a gift to every 20th follower in hopes of keeping my momentum going. Just think how crazy excited I will be when I hit 100! (It will happen :)

Eye Candy (in more ways than one)

Several posts back I talked about going to the 1stdibs floor at the New York Design Center last year. It of course, was amazing but also going on while we were there was the first ever solo art exhibit by renowned photographer Greg Lotus entitled "Impressions". If you've never heard of him, you have probably seen his work. He is most famous for his work with Vogue Magazine but has also worked for Vanity Fair, GQ, etc....

Here is Greg (yum):

Unfortunately, I did not come home with one of his prints because they were $7000.00+ but I did come home with an autographed catalogue of his works. Here are some of my favorite images:

Queen of Loserville

Yes just when I thought my business card looked awesome, Emily Henderson reveals the coolest business card ever sending me into a downward spiral of pity and self loathing humming the Beck tune "I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me". Oh well, maybe one day I'll be cool enough to have a hand embossed card which means its a liquid that was stamped on with a custom made stamp, covered with gold dust which is brushed off then heated so it melts. Whateves!!

Until then, I'm Queen of Loserville with my online, non-original, mass produced card. Curse you Emily Henderson!

Business or Pleasure? We Shall See........

Ok so I've taken the next baby step and purchased "business cards". Ok well that is a strong term seeing as I really haven't started a business yet so for now we will call them "blog cards". I figure I might as well have something to hand someone if ever asked. I needed the card to capture not only my blog info but also the fact that I am a resource for finding new or vintage items for your space as well as being a stylist for a space if needed. That is a lot to capture in one card. I did my best.

I really like the way they turned out. Let me know what you think.

Flea-Bitten

No, not those type of fleas. This weekend was the Nashville Flea Market. If I'm lucky, the Flea weekend starts on a Friday and ends on Sunday. This Friday, mom and I met up with Melissa and Melanie to hunt for treasure. We arrived around 9am and I immediately found this wonderful spun fiberglass patio set from the 1960s.

I could just see this image from House Beautiful in my head.

Unfortunately, it was out of my budget but I did come home with a very cool, very large wooden "A" in an Art Deco script. It is the latest addition to the Bombshell Boudouir decor. For some reason, it reminds me of Laverne's "L" on Laverne and Shirley or the Beverly Hills Hotel Sign font. I would love to know it's history.

After the Flea, we headed to East Nashville to my favorite local mid century modern shop Wonders on Woodland, had lunch at Mad Donnas (Turkey Melt is the best) and then headed to OMG (Old Made Good) for some funky art and vintage therapy. I found an amazing vintage blouse that will allow me to channel Emily Henderson. Yes, I am slightly obsessed with her but not in a creepy way. I plan to look just like this wearing it minus the blonde hair.

Saturday was a lot of this in the backyard taking it easy with the kids and the dogs:

Sunday started with one more round at the Flea to see if more vendors had arrived. Surprisingly enough, I scored a mid century modern bench to go under my HOTEL sign for only $20.00!! I have to recover the cushions but I think it will look great and what a deal.

The weekend is now winding down but what a great one!

Gifts for The Gogo: Gold Plated Flatware

I need (yes NEED, my life depends on it) a set of gold plated flatware. There are several options right now but I think my two favorite sets are by Diane von Furstenberg available at Bloomingdale's and the Linea Ice Orlo flatware from Muhs Home.

Modwalls

Are you looking for some amazing modern glass tile or fun porcelain penny round tile? If so, your search is over. Check out Modwalls. This company located in California was started in 2005 when David and Rebecca Bousfield were renovating their own home and could not find the modern unique tiles they desired. They decided to open an online store showcasing the hard to find modern tiles and have them available for immediate delivery. Brio® glass mosaic tile was their original line. They have since added several other lines including Lush® clear glass subway tile, colorful retro inspired ModDotz™ porcelain penny round tile and eco-friendly ModRocks®. They have even partnered with artist Rex Ray and Rex Ray Studios on a limited edition type face inspired glass tile.

Yikes! Swimsuit Season

Yes swimsuit season is upon us........dread.

I went shopping today and purchased two from J-Crew that I'm considering. I'm afraid one may look like I'm hiding a maternity belly, which I'm not Mom, sorry. I'm just hiding winter belly.

Happy St. Patrick's Day and drink some green beer for me. I'm on an official fast from all things with calories...........well at least until the morning when my husband makes homemade blueberry waffles. Blueberries are a Super Food, right ?

Vintage Lucite Loveliness

I currently have two vintage lucite treasures in my home. I found a set of four lucite bar stools at Soho Retro in Birmingham, Alabama. Little did I know, they are the exact same style Jonathan Adler used in The Parker Palm Springs hotel with the backs removed. Based on 1stdibs, I got them for a steal but who can really compare anything to 1stdibs prices (do people really buy from them?? sometimes I wonder).

Here is a pic from 1stdibs. Mine are identical minus the unappealing chocolate fabric. Mine are covered in white vinyl like the Parker.

My second lucite lovely, is a gorgeous 1970s coffee table purchased at a local estate sale. This table screams Chateau À Gogo! It is currently in the sitting area of our bedroom. I'm going to show you a close-up because I'm still working on the space.

From Food Trucks to Fashion Trucks

I'm the first to admit that I'm a bit intrigued by the nationwide explosion of food trucks. It has finally hit Nashville and I say "better late than never". For our area this is still such a new concept and if you are like me (God forbid) you actually get a little excited when you stumble upon one and get to try their offerings. There are over 37 food trucks in Nashville ranging from gourmet hot dogs to decadent cupcakes. To see a full list of the Nashville trucks and comprehensive menus for each vendor, check out www.nashvillefoodtrucks.com

I am nowhere near trying them all but my favorite thus far is the Grilled Cheesrie. I love a grilled cheese and let's face it......who doesn't?

The latest "truck" trend has moved from food to retail. An article in this month's Lucky Magazine featured retail trucks popping up all over the country. A few night's later, a feature on the local news, enlightened me to The Trunk in Nashville. Taken directly from their Facebook page, "The Trunk is a retail space for the women's accessory brand Sleeveless and the men's clothing store, State. Sleeveless + State are the main proprietors but the The Trunk is available to rent out for other curated fine goods; independent designers, authors and artists. The interior is a fully modular retail space, designed to showcase, clothes, jewelry, art etc."

I love this concept and of course my mind goes directly to my vintage goods, furniture and home accessories. Could this actually be a venue to consider? Who knows but it is worth considering. I'm just not sure how many credenzas, lamps, chairs and Lucite coffee tables I can fit in one truck. Have you seen this concept popping up in your area? If so, I would love to hear about it.

Light Bulb Please Go Off!

Someone please slap me! This "business concept" phase of my life is going to be the death of me and those around me. For those that do know me, know I'm very Type A, a complete perfectionist, over-think and over-analyze every single decision in my life - yes I am a Virgo. Do I want to open a shop, do I want to have a website for online sales, do I want to be an interior decorator, do I want to find amazing vintage pieces and modernize them for today's use, do I want to become famous and be featured in my favorite design magazines, do I want a combination of all these things........YES!

Back to reality and the realization that all of the above is probably unlikely but my main goal is to have fun and enjoy what I'm doing. I just need that elusive light bulb to go off.

So while the wheels are spinning, here are a few entrepreneurial inspirations that I love. Check them out, you will not be disappointed. Maybe one day Nashville will have a business like this and who knows, maybe it will be mine :)
