This past weekend, I went to the Magic City Art Connection in Birmingham, AL. It is always a great show with so much talent. This year I wanted to buy something that would commemorate my departure from the corporate career I've always known into a new phase of "unknown". I was drawn to many pieces but in the end I decided on a very quirky (I love "quirky" art) piece by Chad Moore. Chad is a self taught photographer from Birmingham, AL. His photography typically portrays stuffed animals and action figures in various and quite humorous situations. That may be a terrible way to describe it but I will let these examples speak for themselves:
The one I chose (sorry picture from my iPhone) entitled "Poison Apple" portrays Cinderella, Belle and Sleeping Beauty about to "impart" justice on Snow White. Yes sounds harsh but is hysterical. For me, it stands for a few things: death of my corporate life and girls kicking ass....either way, it speaks to me, makes me smile and laugh which is really the key. I haven't quite figured out how I will explain it to the kids.....I hope I'm not scarring them for life :) Check out Chad's slide show at http://pifflepics.zenfolio.com/
Wow the snow white executions sounds very familiar to my peep execution I posted on Instagram two weeks ago. Lol
ReplyDeleteToo bad we missed y'all this week. Hope we see you at the next flea.
Love that piece...quirky and dark...just the way I like it! Score!
ReplyDeleteIt was the perfect one...no doubt about it!
ReplyDeleteHey Brandy! LOVE your blog, and congratulations for taking the brave step toward your dream career :-) Once you're free of the old day job, you might consider being a guest writer for local magazines with an online presence (like HER or some others), figure out which local celebrity's home you're going to style (and make it happen of course!), and definitely start thinking about working on a book idea! So excited for you! So fun!
ReplyDeleteI don't think any verbal description to do these photos justice. So cool to see these through his eyes/lens.

Wicked and warped. Perfect. Although, yes, might be a bit confusing to the little ones, but I'm sure they'll get over it.
